Why becoming the CEO of my life was the best decision I ever made!!

After spending the latter of the past two decades in the corporate environment I finally pulled together the courage to pursue my own business and become the CEO of my own life. Being passionate about personal assistance, it made sense for me to venture off into a virtual assistant role. Not only does it allow me to continue doing what I love to do but it also allows me to reach a much larger clientele, whilst freeing me from the usual nine-to-five grind.

Having spent fifteen years at my previous employer, I more than welcome clients from different industries; especially those from the media industry which holds a special place in my heart. That’s the beauty of being an assistant; your knowledge and skills are highly transferable and can be applied to almost any business setting. Being able to work with successful people from such varying walks of life more often than not leaves me feeling inspired and energised, ready to take on the world. I’m not only being exposed to different viewpoints and perspectives but also different approaches to everyday problems. The learning potential for me, being my own boss, is unreal and it’s up to me to seize these opportunities and really run with it.

Entrepreneurship is also by no means a walk in the park, it brings with it a considerable amount of uncertainty; despite this being the case, I feel considerably less stressed and am free to choose which tasks I’d prefer doing and who I prefer working with. Finally, I have the flexibility to rearrange my working hours in order to squeeze in a quick cup of coffee with an old friend or to attend extracurricular activities at my kids’ schools. This also means that sometimes I end up working well into the early hours of the morning, but even so, it’s all on my own terms.

I think that’s really the winning line right there…”I’m free to live and work on my own terms”. I’ve spent years proving myself, proving that I can meet deadlines, proving that I can go above and beyond my boss’ expectations and proving that I’m an asset to any company. Now it’s time to not only share my skills with a larger client base but to also compound my learning, because the truth is that I learn from each and every client and their business. And the fulfilment of this is worth every additional grey hair I get in the process because despite the cons, my decision to pursue my own venture has been the most rewarding, and challenging, choice to date and I really wouldn’t have in any other way.
